What is Iken Scientifica?

Iken Scientifica is the hands-on science technology Competition for school children from class five to eight, conducted by Mexus Education.

What is the idea behind it?

Iken Scientifica endeavours to provide students a real-world exposure through application of scientific concepts. It is based on the belief that every child is a genius and it is through harnessing their inquisitiveness and curiosity that a gap can be built between theory and practical learning. It gives children the opportunity to prove their mettle on a national platform.

What is the Iken Scientifica Workshop?

Iken Scientifica Workshop is a unique hands-on experience, where children are subject to several real life scenarios and problem statements. Students are then guided step by step to invent a machine to solve these problem statements. The workshop will introduce the child to a more practical and application oriented side of science. The workshop will also introduce the child to basic design technology and develop innovative thinking capabilities.

How do you reach out to all schools?

Iken Scientifica Competition coordinators reach out to schools across India and conduct multiple-choice tests for participants. The test is a scientific aptitude and skills analysis test. Later diagnostic reports are shared with students. Shortlisted students are then offered workshops as preparatory exercises before city and national level. Workshops are open for all irrespective of their participation to Iken Scientifica competition. Top five students from the workshops get a wild card entry into Iken Scientifica city finals.

Difference between the school Competition and the workshops?

As a corollary to its increasing popularity, the Iken Scientifica Competition now takes the workshop route which means children now get an opportunity to get hands-on experience, experiment, and learn real-world situations beyond classrooms in a simulated marketplace. Here, students can compete with co-participants and apply real-life lessons in design, economics and common sense. The participants work in teams in an open market of raw materials, tools, fabricators and knowledge experts to create useful machines.
